K40 Music Server

The full-width Antipodes K40 is the "Server Apps Only" version of the K50. It is optimised for playing by Direct Stream Ethernet to the Ethernet input on your DAC (or Amp). An Antipodes K40 includes only the high power computation engine from the K50, and excludes the player engine and reclocker engine. But a K40 can be upgraded to a full K50 at any time.

Insert your own SSDs or have your provider install them for you - up to 24TB. Add USB drives. Include music files located elsewhere on your network. Upload music files from anywhere on your network. Add internet streaming services. Attach an Antipodes K10 Ripper to import music from your CDs. K30 Music Server

The full-width Antipodes K30 is the entry model to the premium K-Series and is designed to deliver a large chunk of the K50's performance at a more affordable price.

The Antipodes K30 integrates two separately powered and isolated computation engines:

A high power server engine to enable Server Apps to handle a large music library, re-assemble internet streams to recover the original file's sound quality, handle DSP features without loss of quality, and to serve the cleanest possible stream to the Player App. The K30 server engine delivers single core performance on a par with the K40 and K50 and only lacks the multi-core performance of the higher models.
The K30 uses the same advanced player engine as is used in the K50, to run the selected Player App to provide high quality USB Audio output.

K10 Ripper

The small form factor Antipodes K10 ripper is supplied separately and can be used with any Antipodes music server. Any ripper connected to a music server will have a small negative impact on playback sound quality, so we recommend the ripper is disconnected when not in use. The Antipodes K10 comes with the required USB connecting cable.

The Antipodes K10 will trigger our ripping software to enable high quality auto-ripping at optimised settings. Just place a CD in the tray and close it, and ripping will start automatically. When the CD has been ripped, the tray will open for you to swap it with the next CD. The Antipodes K10 is easily removed when you have finished your ripping session.

The Antipodes K10 is housed in a two-piece casing machined from solid alloy block, providing rock-solid stability for the transport and laser mechanism, and is specified to accurately read pits 100 times smaller than the pits on a CD. The CD ripping software is optimised for accuracy rather than speed - it is worth the wait to do it once and do it right.

S-Series

S40 Music Server

The small form factor Antipodes S40 uses the same server engine as is used in the K30, but is powered by a standard external power supply brick. The S40 can be upgraded by adding the HSL50-based S60 Power Supply, to deliver considerably better audio performance.

The Antipodes S40 uses the v5.2H board. This board is a 'first' - the first Antipodes board that is excellent for both server apps and player apps. It is recommended for use as:

A powerful Server/Player, running both Server Apps and Player Apps, or
A dedicated Server-only, to stream to the Ethernet input of your DAC (or Amp), or to stream to an Antipodes S30 (used as a Player-only).
Roon+HQPlayer
But there is a third important option with the S40. Many audiophiles prefer to use Roon Server with HQPLayer as the player. Both Roon Server and HQPlayer work best with high computing power, depending on what features are used. The third option is to use one S40 for running Roon Server and another S40 to run HQPLayer Embedded. Power them both from a single S60 or dedicate an S60 to each of them. This is a stunning sounding solution.

The Antipodes S40 includes analog output on headphone jack. This is provided for convenience and does not imply we have included a headphone DAC of the same class as the music server engine. The analog sound is good and is provided to enable an easier entry point for someone that does not yet have a good DAC. To realise the full potential of the S40, you should add a quality DAC, or stream to a quality Player such as an Antipodes S30.

S60 Power Supply

The small form factor Antipodes S60 is a HSL50 power supply that can be used with any Antipodes music server that is externally powered. Not only will it transform an Antipodes S20, S30 or Antipodes S40, but it will also dramatically upgrade legacy Antipodes DS, DSGT, Core or EDGE music servers. The improvements in refinement, resolution, dimensionality, dynamics and musical expression are dramatic.

It is important to note that the S20, S30 and S40 have been tuned for optimum performance with a very fast power supply. For low cost, an smps power supply is suitable. For much higher preformance, an S60 is ideal. While you can power an S20, S30 or S40 with a third-party linear power supply, you will lose some of the speed and excitement compared to using the S60.

The S60 may seem like an expensive power supply until you hear what it can do. One of the biggest challenges and biggest influences on sound quality in digital audio is the power supply. Some manufacturers use smps power supplies, and the result is musically lively sound but timbre and tone that is not natural. An smps has the speed needed in digital audio but its high frequency noise is its weakness. Some manufacturers use linear power supplies, and the result is 'pretty boring' - pretty tone and timbre, but boring delivery of the music due to poor presentation of the speed and timing that preserves the excitement and tension of real music. This is where the S60 (and the much larger power supplies used in the K Series) are unique - delivering the speed of an smps and the low noise of a linear power supply. The result with digital circuits is a critical part of the performance of Antipodes Music Servers.

The Antipodes S60 provides two 12VDC outputs, and can power any two of the Antipodes S30, Antipodes S40 or Antipodes S20. Suggested combinations are:

One S60 to power an S30 (running both server apps and player apps), and an S20 Reclocker.
One S60 to power an S40 (running both server apps and player apps), and an S20 Reclocker.
One S60 to power an S40 (running the server apps), and an S30 (running the player apps).
One S60 to power an S40 (running Roon Server), and another S40 (running HQPlayer Embedded).

S30 Music Server

The small form factor Antipodes S30 is our entry-level music server and yet it is based on the advanced player engine used in the K50 and K30. The only compromise made is the external power supply brick supplied as standard. But audio performance can be dramatically enhanced by adding the HSL50-based S60 power supply. With or without the S60, the audio performance of the S30 is outstanding at the respective price points.

The Antipodes S30 is medium-power, enabling it to handle all Server Apps and Player Apps, but audiophiles wanting to use heavy DSP features should consider the high-power S40.

The Antipodes S30 is recommended for use as:

A medium-power Server/Player, running both Server Apps and Player Apps, or
A dedicated Player-only, receiving a music stream by Ethernet from a high quality music server like the Antipodes K40 or S40.
The Antipodes S30 includes an internal DAC with analog RCA outputs for convenience and ease of use. The analog sound is very detailed and musical, and it provides an elegant solution for someone who does not have a separate high-end DAC. However a high-end DAC can be plugged into the S30 USB port to enhance the outcome to an even higher level.

S20 Reclocker

The small form factor Antipodes S20 is a new reclocker that can be added to any Antipodes music server that has a USB Audio output. The Antipodes S20's reclocking engine is the same as the one used in the Antipodes K50. The Antipodes S20 is powered by a standard external brick power supply, but the power is cascade through an internal HSL50 regulator to provide clean power to the reclocker. The performance can be upgraded further by powering it with an Antipodes S60 power supply.

Unfortunately, USB Audio has been negatively impacted by revisions of the USB standard, and the noise introduced by using Ethernet is just as troubling. The Antipodes S20 is the answer to this problem, isolating the USB input electronically from the reclocker circuit and then providing precision re-clocked outputs, powered by Antipodes HSL power supplies.
